Mayoral Monarch Pledge

The monarch butterfly is an iconic species whose populations have declined 90% in the last 20 years due to pesticides and herbicides, habitat destruction, and climate change.

The City of San Marcos has dedicated itself to becoming a sustainable habitat for monarch butterflies and other native pollinators. Since 2017, the City has renewed our pledge to make San Marcos a Monarch Champion City by restoring monarch habitat throughout the community, promoting outreach programs, and hosting an annual Monarch Festival in conjunction with the Native Plant Sale.
