On September 6-7, 2017, staff met with key stakeholders to begin the process of updating the 2010 Parks, Recreation & Open Space Master Plan.

On November 8, 2017, the City of San Marcos Parks and Recreation Department held a town hall meeting to discuss updates to the Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Master Plan at the San Marcos Activity Center. The Parks and Recreation Department sought input via an online survey between October 2017 and November 2017. Hard copies of the survey were available at the San Marcos Activity Center. Those that completed the survey by November 8, 2017, were entered into a drawing to win one of three prizes. Ben Kvanli won the one-year individual membership to the San Marcos Activity Center. Gabrielle Moore won the Rio Vista Fun Prize Pack including a propane grill, grill utensils, a waterproof phone pouch, and sunglasses. Patricia Randow won the Greenspace Hiking Prize Pack including a hydration backpack, hiking pole, and sunglasses. Final survey results can be found on the Parks, Recreation, & Open Space Master Plan Survey Results (PDF).
